SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

 

The System Engineer is responsible for the daily, short-term, and long-term operations and functioning of the electric distribution system including planning, maintenance, inspection, installation, and design.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

 

 

1.       Makes long and short range plans to meet the City’s electrical needs

2.      Monitors and makes adjustments in distribution loads

3.      Ensures proper maintenance of distribution system

4.      Monitors substations and distribution feeders. Monitors loads at substations and on distribution feeders to maintain balanced load make changes as necessary.

5.      Works closely with consulting engineers on specific projects and in design studies.

6.      Design work necessary for new installations including but not limited to new subdivisions, commercial and industrial applications and system designs.

7.      Plans and coordinates changes in distribution system protective equipment. Determines sizing of transformer banks, capacitor installations, protective fusing and distribution wire size and locations.

8.      Monitor metering systems and make changes as necessary.

9.      Investigates and resolves complaints.

10.    Plans, stakes and coordinates system improvement changes.

11.     Update and maintain SCADA and mapping system.

12.    Assist operations personnel on daily basis and as needed in emergency situations.

13.    Participates in and plans safety meeting and training programs. Ensures compliance with safety rules and methods.

14.    Performs other duties as requested by proper authority.

The Alabama Department of Finance - Division of Construction Management has an immediate opening for a mechanical engineer. The individual would review mechanical engineering design plan submittals for projects throughout the state to determine compliance with standards and codes. This is a permanent, full-time position in Montgomery. 

Mechanical Engineer II - applicants  must have six years of professional experience in mechanical design, construction, installation, maintenance and/or plan review.
        
All applicants must have (1) a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited four-year college or university, (2) six years experience in mechanical design construction, installation, maintenance and/or plan review and (3) be a licensed PE in the State of Alabama.

JOB INFORMATION
The Finance, Director of Construction Management is a permanent, full-time position with the Department of Finance. This position is located in Montgomery, Alabama. This is responsible managerial and technical work in the oversight and administration of all construction, renovation and major repair work for state agencies.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in architecture or engineering.
• Eight (8) years of experience in implementation of a comprehensive or system wide construction program from individual project initiation to final closeout including five (5) years of experience in the management of the design and/or construction of multiple, simultaneous on-going complex construction projects in a supervisory capacity.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
• Qualified applicants must possess a professional engineer’s license as issued by the Alabama Board for the Registration of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors or registration as an Architect by the Alabama Board of Architects.

Job Description: Engineering Services Manager, City of Prattville

Engineering Services Manager INSPECTION DUTIES Inspects new subdivisions for storm and sanitary sewer installation, water installation, proof roll, curbs, gutter installation, storm inlet installation, and asphalt placement. Inspects storm sewer connections on commercial buildings. Internally inspects 30" or larger storm pipes. Performs proof rolls to ensure proper compaction of streets prior to curb, gutter, and asphalt placement. Conducts two-year subdivision review; prepares punch lists for developers. Monitors final testing of sanitary sewer installations. MAINTENANCE DUTIES Responds to work orders; troubleshoots problems and determines the nature of the problem; coordinates resolutions. Performs ride alongs to identify needed repairs and maintenance. PLAN REVIEW DUTIES Performs plan reviews. Checks incoming plans and blueprints to ensure compliance with city specifications. SURVEY AND OTHER RELATED DUTIES Performs surveying to verify elevations and distances, find property corners, layout building pads, and check grades. Performs property deed research. Responds to concerns from the general public, contractors, city officials, or related professionals. Performs other duties as needed or assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors' Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution is required. Three (3) years' of experience in a related field preferably in a municipal government. Must be twenty-one (21) years of age or older. Must have a Class "A" Drivers' License (or the ability to obtain within 9 months of employment).
